BioISA: BodyHacks

BodyHacks brings together academics and researchers from across the globe in the first fully interactive and collaborative biomedical information analysis environment.

Using the powerful BioISA analysis platform, participants:
  • Perform in-depth exploration of disease systems
  • Analyze complex biological networks
  • Discover novel relationships
  • Share knowledge by contributing new information
  • Expand the worldwide collective knowledge base
  • Make progress towards a cure
Each BodyHack spans several days and consists of discrete objectives so that measurable progress can be made while still allowing for free exploration of the data.

How it Works:

At any time during a BodyHack, just go to the BodyHacks Dashboard at bioisa.org/bodyhacks/dashboard. After selecting a Mission and launching Palantir, you will have access to a carefully chosen subset of biomedical data that is most relevant to the focus of the current BodyHack. Use all the tools Palantir Biology puts at your disposal to analyze the disease system at hand and make your own contributions to existing data in a fully-interactive, collaborative environment. Add novel information; posit new relationships; share your theories with others.

Data is drawn from a variety of sources, including:
  • NCBI Human Genome database
    • Basic gene information, Gene Ontology, protein interactions, PubMed abstract references
  • UniProt/SwissProt
    • Protein database with information about protein structure, amino acid sequence, and subdomain listings
  • PharmGKB
    • Database on relationships between genes, drugs, and diseases
  • KEGG
    • Pathway information for cellular processes, molecular signaling, and diseases
  • Medline Pubmed Abstracts
    • Academic research abstracts
  • DrugBank
    • Basic information on drugs and their molecular interactions
  • WikiPathways
    • Information on known signaling pathways
Additional information is being continually ingested. Throughout each BodyHack, our database is continually updated with the contributions made by you and your colleagues around the world so you can see progress being made and keep up to date with the latest information.

Join your colleagues in a concerted effort to fight disease by sharing your knowledge and experience in the next BodyHack. Click here for more information. Also, feel free to discuss hacking tips & techniques as well and current, past, and upcoming hacks in the BodyHackers' Forum.

If you would like to share BodyHacks with a friend or colleague, please send them this flyer to get them involved.

The Big Picture:

Each BodyHack utilizes a small subset of our available data to target a specific disease system. If you would like to experience Palantir Biology with the entire 30 million and growing object dataset, please put your name on our waiting list, and we will notify you as resources become available.
